DW S3 so far

I watched ep3 of DW last night. I have to admit to a certain amount of disappointment. I enjoyed the episode, I loved the 2 travelling lesbians and DT with a kitten is just made of win, but apart from that I was left mostly with a feeling of 'Meh'. And I have to say that's my feeling for the whole series so far. There's nothing wrong with it, but there's nothing to make me squeal with excitement either. Last series at this time, we'd had the werewolf, the Krillitanes, Sarah Jane and K9. What have we had so far? A plasmavore, 3 witches, Shakespeare and giant crabs (and what happened to them anyway?) - it's not stacking up. I'm only just about bothering to watch the repeats, I'm certainly not downloading anything. To be honest, I think I prefer
So what's up? I don't know.
It might be that it's because it's not Torchwood. Twood has spoiled me for a lot of series and not just because of John Barrowman. Twood was on the edge all the time. You really didn't know what was going to happen next. (This was also true for the writers and the producers, I suspect!) You couldn't always tell who the good guys were and they didn't always win. Is that what's missing this series - the element of risk? Have we lost anyone we cared about so far? (Apart from the Face of Boe?) In DW S1, helping the Doctor was quite often a fatal move. S2 had a decent death rate as well. But so far in S3, we've only had random victims - no one we're really supposed to care about. Too many people are living.
And could it be that I don't really like DT as the Doctor. In S2, I always felt that there was something missing, but I just put it down to lack of JB. But now, I'm not so sure. DT can do Ten's funny, genius and eccentric bit fine, but I don't believe he's dangerous. CE's Nine however, was dangerous. An angry Nine was bloody scarey - you could see why the Dalek's backed off from him. Ten, not so much. When Rose gets her face sucked off by the Wire DT gets all shouty about how nothing's going to stop him sorting it out. But CE could have said nothing and still conveyed that he'd destroy planets to get her back.
So that's me and DW at the mo. It's the Daleks next week. I hope they improve things because otherwise, I may stop watching until JB arrives. And I never thought I'd say that about DW.
