Upset fans = upset writer
Jul. 12th, 2009 09:31 pmPoor James Moran, one of the writers of Torchwood CoE, being on Twitter and with a blog, has been accessible to the fury of the fans. And there has been fury and ranting and personal comments. This is his reaction to it all. He's pulling back and stopping that kind of connection with the fans. Probably a wise choice. But if he thinks that people wouldn't say those kind of things to his face? He hasn't been around fandom very much has he? I've been at cons where guests have been accused of poisoning other guests and where one writer was told that his idea for movie of the show was complete crap and anvilicious.
I feel a lot of sympathy for him, but I think it's naive not to realise there was going to be a huge reaction to what they did with the series. He says his only duty is to the story. Well that's fine and absolutely true and correct and I salute him for it. And I will also think long and hard before watching any new series of Torchwood and anything else he writes. Because I don't want to spend my leisure time in the kind of world he created here.
